Daily Sartorial Tip #23: Once you’ve mastered the fundamental rules of dressing, occasionally breaking them is how you evolve to become a true sartorial dandy.

As I have preached in the past, one rule is that there should be only one statement piece in your outfit. In this case, I am wearing two statement pieces together, i.e. the burnt orange blazer and electric blue geometric print shirt (both of which are equally loud as a standalone piece).

This particular combination works because:
1. Blue and orange are complementary colours (opposite each other in the colour wheel), hence they do not clash but in fact, look harmonious together.
2. When the blazer is buttoned up, the bulk of the shirt’s geometric print is hidden from sight, effectively muting the loudness of the print.
3. Bottom half of the outfit is kept simple with dark trousers and brown shoes to anchor the top half. And as you can discern, I chose to go open-necked as adding neckwear would be a visual overkill with too many elements vying for attention.
